Parish Church of St. Peter of the Valley

Church built in 1701, in an elevation of the Lima valley, but whose interior decoration is later. It features a longitudinal plan of a single nave, chancel and bell tower, built between 1842/46. The façade, facing the valley, is divided into two cloths, that of the nave and that of the bell tower. The cloth of the nave, bounded by pilasters, is torn by a portal, framed, overcome by pediment interrupted with rectangular window, encimated by another triangular with latin cross in the center, covered by pyramidal pinnacles that end in sphere. The second cloth consists of a bell tower of three registers, marked by cornice and stone frieze, completed by coruchéu ornado by Latin cross.

But this temple is characterized mainly by its peculiar interior richness, particularly by the Baroque gilded carving, the mural of the ceilings and the screens of the chancel. The nave has four altarbules, two embellished by paintings on canvas, representing St.Michael comforting the souls trapped in Purgatory and the Presentation of the Child in the Temple and two ornated by the sculptures of Our Lady of the Valley and the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The ceiling is preserved by a densely crafted frame, where the image of Our Lady appears through the clouds. The notch and polychromy of Arco Cruzeiro are superb, especially the central elements. Also noteworthy is the radiance streaked with a dove, attribute of the Holy Spirit, the papal tiara, the baculum and the cross with three rods (Church, World and Heaven), symbols of St. Peter. And, finally, the chancel, with a beautiful national Baroque altarpiece, four paintings on canvas and a ceiling framed by a painting full of angels and cherubim, where St. Peter appears, seated, with a winged angel freeing him from the chains.
